Kanyon Mixed-Use Building Facade

STATUS

Constructed

PROJECT SIZE

115,000 m2

This project is a Jerde Partnership concept, which resembles a natural canyon with very dynamic, complex and curvilinear façades. A shopping center with cafes, sports and recreation activities connect the surrounding streets with the metro line. The cinema block is just like a sphere with a spherical void facing the mall area. Underneath that void, activities such as music bazaar, concerts, kid entertainment, fan days, exhibitions take place. Similar to a natural canyon, it has winds, which need to be considered in façades.

At the main entrance a 26-storey office tower rise with a very dynamic and delicate façade. It has catwalks with handrails suspending from its glass façade creating rhythmic moves.

At the heart of the CBD, this is a landmark project for the city of Istanbul.

In this project I had contributed in its complex facade solutions for the shopping center, office tower and residences. The project was widely using passive climate control systems, Kanyon’s the 26-storey office block – has the largest surface area of all the buildings in the complex – has been finely designed so as to use less energy. The sunblinds on the south façade have a great impact in passive climate control which is both functional and aesthetic.

In curtain wall solutions Reynears aluminum systems were used. The buildings need to be highly resistant to earthquake forces and thus makes use of a specially designed facade system. Thus making it possible to position the modular façade applications with the classical frame structure and also it allows the manufacturing of the individual façade panels in the workshop.

Water proof and heat insulation solutions were naturally included.
